"Red" Series: This is a T3/T4 hybrid style unit, which allows use of the stock T3 turbine while incorporating a larger T4 compressor wheel and housing. The turbine is trimmed to reduce exhaust backpressure and the compressor wheel can generate over 36 lbs./min airflow. This is a serious upgrade designed to efficiently support airflow up to 300 hp and we highly recommend this unit for those SAAB owners seeking domination. This unit also comes standard with our NI resist turbine housings (typically a $225 optional upgrade) which are custom cast for guaranteed crack free service...even under the highest of exhaust gas temperatures. Our Red Series line also comes standard with our new 360 degree oil seals and super thrust bearing for minimal oil bypassing (eliminate smoke in exhaust common to others T3/T4 hybrid turbochargers) and a long service life. This unit will be an absolute retrofit onto vehicles employing the Garrett T3 turbocharger (900 to 1993 and 9000 to 1989) and will not require modifications upon installation. This is of substantial benefit over most T3/T4 units sold elsewhere which are inaccurately sized and will not properly fit the SAAB. Please mention vehicle information when ordering
The SAAB factory turbo was designed to generate low-end torque while keeping production costs at a minimum. The small, inefficient T3 style units were probably more of an accountant's decision than one of an engineer. Many T3 units come standard with what's known as a 45 compressor wheel and may only be capable of producing about 15 Lbs./min air flow (max 22lbs @ 154Krpm) at it's greatest efficiency…child's play when it comes to producing real power. Extracting greater engine output by means of a simple boost adjustment will only work within the capacity of the tiny compressor wheel... targeting engine power beyond this capacity will require a turbo upgrade.
In reality, Turbo selection is one of the more complicated and complex sciences you'll encounter when upgrading your engine. There are dozens of variables that could have an effect on whether the turbo you choose is going to do what it says it will. If your A/R ratio is too high, for instance, you may not be able to get the unit to spool up until you reach ungodly RPMs.

For simplicity of installation, all of our turbocharger upgrades and replacements are a direct factory retro-fit and will require no modification for proper installation as they are designed to fit onto SAAB specific applcations. T3/T4 hybrid purchased elsewhere will almost always require modifications or additional component/plumbing to properly fit onto the OEM location.
