| "Blue" Series Fuel Injector Set (4): For all fuel injected 900 turbo and SPG series 1985-1993 (and '94 convertible) and all 9000 turbo from 1985-1990.
Between 1985-1993, SAAB 900/9000s used the BOSCH LH fuel injection system to perform the task of delivering an accurate dose of fuel at the car's engine. The fuel injectors used were selected based on the modest power rating of the OEM engine and are not capable of delivering enough fuel to support high output applications. The rising rate regulator (above) is normally used when combating this fuel dilemma but, due to the small nozzle size, serious limitations arise when attempting to obtain an engine output over 200 bhp. At this point, a simple calculation will reveal the need for a minimum rate of 27 lbs/hr of fuel per cylinder ...anything less will not be working at optimum efficiency! This is compounded by the fact that your original injectors (21lb/hr OEM turbo OG900) may not be performing up to par due to the mileage incurred on them. All of these factors lead the SAAB tuner towards a fuel injector upgrade.
Although it may seem like you simply throw on a huge set of injectors to gain more power, gallon per hour sizing can be a tricky and frustrating endeavor. An injector set that is rated too high in conjunction with a factory ECU (Fuel injection computer) will cause a rich idle that can only be described as lumpy…in some extreme cases, the engine won't even start! Somehow, this never impressed us as a performance upgrade!
Companies like BOSCH manufacture hundreds of different fuel injectors for a reason. Different engine horsepower ranges/specifications require different fuel deliveries. There are various flow patterns, delivery rates, and electrical compatibilities that confuse issues even further. SWEDISH DYNAMICS has tested countless variations of fuel injectors for different SAAB engine modifications and we have selected two which will work unbelievably well with our stage 1 (blue) and Red series line of engine upgrades. They will also perform beautifully with any preexisting engine updates that bring your Saab into the power ranges mentioned below. All of our fuel injectors are put through a dynamic flow test (based on 3000 six millisecond pulses) which give them an unsurpassed accuracy and match!
Our Blue series BOSCH fuel injectors are the perfect choice for matching fuel delivery to 230-240hp while using our rising rate fuel pressure regulator...they will also nicely handle 200-225bhp using one of our fixed fuel pressure regulator upgrades (2.8/3.0). These have become a staple for those customers looking to stay away from detonation after stepping boost pressures past 15-18psi(as with our APC modifications). Engine power is increased through a more accurate air/fuel ratio while maximum boost stays constant (no boost fluctuation)!
Special fuel injectors are available to support engine output requirements of up to 500 horsepower. We also have fuel injector sets for any naturally aspirated (non-turbo) upgrade and later model Saab applications including 9-3 and 9-5...please call or Email!
All of our injector sets are a direct OEM replacement and installation can be as quick as 30 minutes...no special tools are required. They will provide unmatched accuracy of fuel delivery and idle/low end engine conditions will not see an effect with regard to fuel economy...we've even had reports of improved highway mileage after installation of these upgrades!
