Saabs have always had their own unique look…a look that most owners fell in love with at first sight. Ask them what styling characteristic they would change on these cars, however, and most are in agreement that the front end simply rides too high. The stock suspension keeps the car at such a ridiculous height that our customer's frequently complain about the front end appearance and the impression that they could practically fit their head between the front tire and wheel arch! These OEM springs provide a more comfortable ride for the family outing or long business trip but are less than adequate for sport applications...The ride is sloppy, unpredictable and doesn't give the driver a feeling of complete control.
Our SWEDISH DYNAMICS Sport Spring Set not only dramatically improves the look of the car (see link below for customer photo of 900 after spring installation) after , but they also provide a staggering update to handling and control. Our Red Series spring upgrade was designed with the street performance enthusiast in mind. Almost all of the users of these springs are ecstatic when they see that their Saab's front end has been lowered by 30-40mm but, after driving the updated car, they realize that before this change, their stock suspension was allowing a considerable amount of “play” or roll. As one owner suggested: “I used to turn the steering wheel and wait for the car to follow…now I’m in control!” 9-3 and 9-5 owners will no longer have to live with the dramatic front end rise during acceleration that has become a common complaint among owners.
All of our springs are made of the finest German chromium silicon steel and feature a shot-peen process that eliminates “sag” common with other "performance" spring manufacturers after only a few years of use. A typical customer concern with regard to a lowering/performance spring installation is that the car's tires will have more tendency to rub/chafe on the wheel wells due to the reduced clearances between them. Our springs are matched for Saab applications and although they will lower the car substantially, the spring rate is also dramatically increased, at the same time, making it much more resistant (than OEM spring) to movement per pound/ load applied. IE more force will need to be applied to the car's suspension to cause the spring to travel the same distance....making the closer tire/wheel well clearances completely reasonable for the increased rate of our Red Series springs..
Installation can be quite painless and a majority of the better known "auto chains" stock spring compressor tools for rental...which makes the task simplistic, otherwise, any shock/suspension shop can do the installation at a typically modest rate.
A buyer beware: These springs are not for the faint of heart and will increase the suspension’s rate by up to 30%…they are not designed for cars with baby seats. Nearly all of our enthusiast oriented customers, however, regard our springs as being quite comfortable without the harsh side effects of some suspension updates. As with any lowering/performance spring, the car’s camber alignment may be altered. This may be easily addressed through a basic wheel alignment at the time of installation.
