| Aluminum flywheel for all manual transmission 1979-1993 SAAB 900, 900T and 9000, 9000T from 1986-1990. These are our exclusive design flywheel as only offered by SWEDISH DYNAMICS and these are in stock as of winter 2006/2007!
The flywheel on any automotive application serves it's purpose by helping to keep the engine's rotating assembly in motion. You may remember from a physics class, that a body at rest tends to stay at rest until acted on by force. With regard to most engines, this will simply mean that your flywheel will want to stay at rest (or its current speed) until power from the crankshaft can force it into motion...this correlates to engine power which is wasted through such an effort. The OEM Saab flywheel, for instance, is over 20lbs of steel which makes it difficult for the small engine to accelerate since it does a substantial amount of work in getting the rotating assembly up to speed...in fact, some OEM V8 applications have less than 20 lbs of flywheel!
Our Red Series flywheels are constructed from the highest quality aluminum and are less than half the weight of OEM! This means that more of your Saab's engine power is transferred to the wheels instead of turning a ridiculously heavy flywheel. This is an advantage which will make for immediate acceleration and create neck snapping results at full throttle...this type of modification is even considered an unfair advantage in many automotive racing categories! Turbo owners will be happy to know that the quicker engine response relates to substantial reduction in lag which makes this upgrade a two-fold enhancement.
Our 900 aluminum flywheels have a universal Saab clutch pattern which is a Swedish Dynamics exclusive. This means that if you're working with a pre-1989 clutch assembly, you can easily step up to a late model larger (225mm) clutch package for better power handling capabilities! As seen by the photo above, 2 sets of clutch indexing pins will allow the user to simply remove those pins not required.
Longevity and service life are fully retained by employment of our special hardened steel friction surface and outer ring gear...both of which are fully removable for service, if required!
This is a modification that has no negative side effects...idle quality, clutch activity, mileage/fuel economy, etc. are all held intact yet you reap the reward of a 50% lighter assembly than OEM and a performance factor impossible to miss!
