| 16 Valve Blue Series. For all 16 valve 900 and 9000 SAAB high performance: using your stock cylinder head components, we port, polish and gasket match to insure a substantial airflow increase which will greatly outperform any 2.1 or 2.3 liter cylinder head. Stock valve seats are milled to spec and each valve lapped into place. This stage is designed to allow all the advantages of relieving, porting and polishing without breaking the bank. The factory/OEM Saab cylinder head will not allow for the venture into the higher rpm range without consequences. Most Saab cylinder head modifications we see are based on the "bigger is better" analogy…larger ports, however, may actually hurt performance by defeating the benefit of airflow speed. Exhaust ports can be altered to the point where the turbocharger, when applicable, will loose exhaust gas velocity that drives it's compressor whee and less boost means a loss of performance! The cylinder head in your SAAB was designed for the daily driver working on a lower RPM scale. It's restrictive, inaccurate and it won't allow for optimum performance.
A cylinder head from SWEDISH DYNAMICS allows more airflow and exhaust velocities to take advantage of the higher RPM band. We start by increasing the port diameter and relieving the valve bowls. We then gasket match the intake and exhaust mating surfaces and thoroughly polish the ports until they are free of any imperfections. Higher output versions may call for larger valves, mechanical lifters, more aggressive porting and multi-angle valve grinding depending on the application. Intake and exhaust manifolds may be reworked with gasket matching, relieving, porting and polishing The end result is a SAAB that has a noticeable power increase at the lower rev range and then launches past 4000 RPM. 30+ additional horsepower can be extracted from higher turbo boost applications! These modifications will generate as much as 28% additional intake over OEM and can make the 8V perform more efficiently than their OEM16V counterparts...modified 16V engines will perform closer to the V6 and turbocharged applications will capitalize on the more efficient intake/exhaust ports. This creates the power and torque of an 18-20psi boost pressure at just 15 psi and, since exhaust velocities maximize sooner and climb higher, turbo lag is substantially reduced.
All customer cylinder heads are completely rebuilt during their modification and include new valve stem seals and valve guides. If adding our high lift camshafts or seeking higher rpm ranges, special uprated valve springs and mechanical lifters may be installed to support 7000+ on the tachometer. You can ship us your OEM cylinder head (about $20 UPS ground) for reformatting but we also stock a wide array of Saab cylinder head cores which allows us to ship one of our upgrades directly to you/your mechanic (you ship us your OEM cylinder head in return)...this means no down-time or waiting for your modified cylinder head to arrive!
Please remember that although these heads will allow substantial airflow gains, more air requires more fuel. A cylinder head upgrade is the only way to extract optimum power from your engine but it is not a bolt on elixir…additional modifications (fuel, etc) may be required.
